The Ivy House is a 501(c) 3 Organization established by Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®, Zeta Beta Omega Chapter.
The Ivy House received its tax-exempt status in November 2003. This status placed us in the position to search for a permanent facility for Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® Zeta Beta Omega Chapter. In October 2007, The present facility, located at 1910 Robert T Longway, formally known as the Lewis Professional Building, was purchased. Dr. Billie Lewis was the moving force behind this acquisition. His wife, our departed sister, Dr. Vivian Lewis' record of professionalism and services to our community and sorority is being memorialized in the work and activities we implement throughout The Ivy House. Our present address, 1908 Robert T. Longway was changed to reflect the founding year of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®.
Because of our facility, we have been able to respond to the water crisis here in Flint by being one of the distribution sites for water, food, and other necessities. We continue to expand our services for youth groups, provide duffle bag distributions and a free clothing closet for all who come in for assistance. The facility is also utilized by an Alzheimer's group. These activities, among others, help us to continue our mission of implementing programs to enhance the quality of life issues that exist among the economically disadvantaged in the areas of education, health, family, and civic responsibility.
